GREENS (Grow, Revitalize, Educate, Enliven, Nourish, Sustain) is run out of the BKYSC Urban Farm, a roughly 4,000 SF space that BKYSC transformed from an empty lot to a thriving garden and environmental learning center. The Garden is truly student-led. Through GREENS, students learn about growing food from seed, understanding each part of the process of creating urban green space, beautifying the earth and bettering ourselves. They also learn to eat healthy, enjoy a variety of vegetables, and prepare delicious food based on recipes from the community. Perhaps most importantly, the garden builds in students a sense of shared responsibility and mutuality. Students curate community events to distribute the crops from the garden to community members in need.
