Thank you for supporting BKYSC’s mission to teach and inspire a generation of Brooklyn students on their path to college and beyond. It is deeply meaningful for our students to have positive role models and thoughtful adults in their classrooms. Our volunteer program focuses on MENTORSHIP - we invite mentors from across NYC to work with students through a structured mentorship experience that focus on students’ individual needs by matching mentors whose personal experiences and resources best fit each mentee.

The ideal mentor candidate is kind, thoughtful, patient, and available. This person cares about people and assumes the best intentions in young people. The mentor must be optimistic and direct, communicative and realistic, and a skilled and responsive listener. The mentor will maintain a consistent schedule of meeting times and ensure accountability from the student. We hope that mentor-mentee relationships are collaborative, two-way relationships that bring value to everyone involved, mentors included!
Our mentorship options range from short term mentorship experiences (4-6 months) to longer term opportunities (3+ years) - to learn more and apply to become a BKYSC mentor, please click on the links below
